چکیده

Studies that assess the success of riparian restoration projects seldom focus on wildlife. More generally, vegetation characteristics are studied, with the assumption that animal populations will recover once adequate habitats are established. On the Sacramento River, millions of dollars have been spent on habitat restoration, yet few studies of wildlife response have been published. Here we present the major findings of a suite of studies that assessed responses of four taxonomic groups (insects, birds, bats, and rodents). Study designs fell primarily into two broad categories: comparisons of restoration sites of different ages, and comparisons of restoration sites with agricultural and remnant riparian sites. Older restoration sites showed increased abundances of many species of landbirds and bats relative to younger sites, and the same trend was observed for the Valley elderberry longhorn

Maximizing benefits from riparian revegetation efforts: local- and landscape-level determinants of avian response.

With limited financial resources available for habitat restoration, information that ensures and/or accelerates success is needed to economize effort and maximize benefit. In the Central Valley of California USA, riparian habitat has been lost or degraded, contributing to the decline of riparian-associated birds and other wildlife. Active restoration of riparian plant communities in this region...

Quantifying the Effect of Riparian Forest versus Agricultural Vegetation on River Meander Migration Rates, Central Sacramento River, California, Usa

Riparian forest vegetation is widely believed to protect riverbanks from erosion, but few studies have quantified the effect of riparian vegetation removal on rates of river channel migration. Measured historical changes in a river channel centreline, combined with mapped changes in floodplain vegetation, provide an opportunity to test how riparian vegetation cover affects the erodibility of ri...

Understanding the ecology of blue elderberry to inform landscape restoration in semiarid river corridors.

Societal constraints often limit full process restoration in large river systems, making local rehabilitation activities valuable for regeneration of riparian vegetation. A target of much mitigation and restoration is the federally threatened Valley elderberry longhorn beetle and its sole host plant, blue elderberry, in upper riparian floodplain environments. However, blue elderberry ecology is...

Variability of Life form and chorology of soil seed bank of Gamasiab river riparian with distance from the river

Background and objectives: Riparian vegetation along the river is one of the most sustainable aboveground covers that is a good source of food for livestock. Considering the degraded riparian areas, studies on soil seed bank is important and, necessary for restoration goals. Methodology: The present study was conducted to investigate the soil seed bank in the riparian region of the Gamasiab ri...

تغییرات زمانی و مکانی پهنه پوشش گیاهی حاشیه مرطوب رودخانه آقبلاغ طی 5 دهه

Riparian vegetation is a component of river system that performs certain basic functions including primary vegetative production, protecting stream banks from erosion, trapping sediments, promoting water quality, wildlife habitat and fisheris, forage for livestock, etc. In this research, spatio-temporal change of vegetation riparian area of Aghbolagh-river as an upstream of Karoon-river for 65-...
